Fawley railway station

Fawley

This is believed to have been the last time a passenger train stopped at Fawley Station, situated at the entrance to Fawley Refinery, near Southampton.

The occasion was a Private Charter using two Hampshire Units coupled together, the date was Sunday 23 April 1978 and the train had started from Totton on the main Southampton to Bournemouth Line.

Fawley railway station was the terminus of the Totton, Hythe and Fawley Light Railway, which was built along the coast of Southampton Water to connect Totton and Fawley and to provide a freight link to Fawley Refinery.

History

The station opened on 20 July 1925 and closed to passengers on 14 February 1966 and goods on 2 January 1967.[1] The line remains open to serve Fawley Refinery, with the site of Fawley railway station now within the perimeter of the refinery.

Reopening

The Association of Train Operating Companies have applied for funding for the reopening of Hythe railway station, to serve the village of Hythe, Hampshire, north of Fawley.[2]
